Kohei Makita, who launched the brand “MOTIVE” that dominated the street scene during the heyday of Ura-Harajuku, founded “THE UNION” in Osaka in 2009. The denim line of “THE UNION” aims to be a denim brand that sticks to the basics and can be worn for a long time without changing.

Cotton-focused Rigid Denim
The fabric uses 13oz selvedge denim woven with Zimbabwe cotton yarns, offering a rigid specification. Depending on how it’s worn and washed, it develops unique denim characteristics over time. However, please note that it will shrink when washed due to being unwashed.

All stitching uses cotton thread, allowing you to enjoy color fading over time. In addition, the use of a vintage sewing machine, known as a black sewing machine, produces an appropriately loose thread tone, preventing thread breakage, which is the weak point of cotton thread.

Loaded with Detailed Features
The front has a button-fly design, and the V-stitching on the sides of the top button reproduces the unique vintage sewing style seen until the 1960s, when sewing machines did not have a turnstitching function.

It also features single stitching above the waistband and chain stitching below, a specification known as “V-stitch waist single” in the vintage market.

The front pocket is an original detail with a unique curve. By slightly lowering the side of the pocket, the opening of the pocket widens slightly below to make it easier to put your hand in, and thus the name “welcome pocket” is given.

In addition, the fabric bag of the pockets is set deeper to prevent the contents of the pockets from falling out easily when sitting down.

The archuate stitching on the back pockets is an original design called “T-HONE”. The design, inspired by the “bullhorn” often seen on vintage names and tags, is arranged in a modern style.

The chain stitching on the hem, finished in a narrow width, employs a unique sewing technique that allows the threads of the sewing machine to escape. This is a reproduction of the efficient workflow detail used for mass production in those days. The design is perfect even in areas that would otherwise be lost when the length is raised.

The selvedge at the hem and coin pockets, leather patches, and hidden rivets with “THE” stamped on them are the brand’s commitment and details that can only be found in vintage.
