The origin of the Gurkha sandal dates back to the 19th century when British mercenaries organized in Nepal were called Gurkha soldiers. They wore shoes derived from the shoes worn by these soldiers.
Since they were mountain people, they needed to securely hold their feet while freely traversing rugged mountain paths.
As a result, Gurkha sandals with a design that covered not only the instep but also the toes and heels were born.
